
The Kids Read of the Little d Award Winning Book
This event is designed to broaden and deepen an appreciation of reading in grades 3-6 by engaging students in a shared reading experience with other students throughout the city. More events such as writing and poster exercises will be planned in the coming year to expand this program. Further activities will be planned based on the nature of the book chosen to make the event an interesting adventure for the kids.

Mayor Jennings and Superintendent Joseph unveiled this year's book, Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney, on Novemer 12, 2008. Activity packets created specically for the book will encourage reading the book thoroughly. These are available in Albany school libraries and also at the Book House in Stuyvesant Plaza. Included in the packet is an entry form for an art and essay contest for grades 3-6. The city-wide contest winners (five from grades 3-6) will be treated to lunch with the Tulip Queen and possibly the Mayor and given a gift certificate to the Book House. The Tulip Queen, Sarah Volk, and her court will also be doing readings of Diary of a Wimpy Kid in Albany schools throughout the year.
