LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA. (August 8, 2005) – Domingo Montes has been hired as the Lincoln University men's and women's tennis coach for the 2005-06 season.

Montes is a 2002 graduate of Lincoln. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Spanish and served as tennis captain for two years.

“I feel honored to be able to coach my alma mater,” Montes said. “I am looking forward to helping the tennis team and the entire athletic department go to another level. I want to make the tennis program a shining light for the students and the community.”

Montes replaces interim coach Michael Hill, who filled in for long-time coach Eugene Thompson, who took a job at Virginia State University. This will be Montes' first head coaching experience.

“My philosophy is a simple one,” Montes said. “We plan to work hard, play hard and let the results come.”

Montes, who teaches first grade, is entering his second year at Erin Dudley Forbes Charter School in Oxford. Originially born in Brooklyn, Montes spent several years in Puerto Rico before moving to Albany, New York.

Montes, a member of the National Collegiate Foreign Language Honor Society, spent the last three summers as a tennis instructor for the 15-Love Tennis Program, a non-profit organization that reaches out to inner-city youths in central New York's capital region. In addition to providing free tennis leassons, Montes mentored, tutored and counseled teenagers in the program.

“When (Domingo) was here, I always thought he was a good leader,” Lincoln athletic director Cyrus Jones said. “I feel he has the leadership and attitude to help get our tennis team to the next level.”
