Our daily life at 15-LOVE doesn’t have the same regimen as a professional tennis player, but our impact on underserved youth is the result of significant involvement and hard work. Getting to the level of performance we now experience has taken dedication, like a finely conditioned athlete. Now more than ever, we need to increase our regimen as we ambitiously look to the future.
What does it take to effectively reach underserved youth? The challenging issues our kids face in their daily lives are real. Our programs equip them with important life-skills needed to successfully navigate life’s many demands. Tennis is fun, and importantly it teaches a great deal more than just keeping score.
No one believed in the opportunity tennis offers to “teach the game of life” more than the great Arthur Ashe himself. He was instrumental in helping launch 15-LOVE, coming to Albany in each of the last three years of his remarkable life.
We have seven operating themes that shape our programs both on and off the court. We don’t stray from these principles—it is how we reach the over 4,000 eager participants who enroll each year. The themes are basic—probably things you heard from your parents, teachers or coaches and perhaps even shared with your own family.
At 15 LOVE we:
promote good health
instill positive values
foster multicultural relationships
support family preservation
advocate good sportsmanship
encourage community service
A CHAMPION'S RECORD
Founded in 1990, the Capital Region Youth Tennis Foundation (CRYTF), better known as 15-LOVE, has successfully impacted the lives of thousands of inner city youth in Albany, Schenectady, Troy and Rensselaer extensively. It is a 27 year-old record we are proud of for several reasons, but three consistently populate the top:
Our history of touching the lives of underserved youth in meaningful ways is strong,
Using tennis as a means to engage them in fun, physical and affordable activities.
Promoting healthy lifestyles and making good choices.
Emphasizing the importance of being committed to education, family & friends.
15-LOVE has often been recognized by the United States Tennis Association (USTA), among others, for what the program has accomplished. However, we think the most telling examples of 15-LOVE’s success is found in our graduates.
Our success can be found in our graduates. Learn of their accomplishments by
Like a professional tennis player making his or her way through the draw and into the finals at the US Open, 15-LOVE is lean and focused on operating with strength and determination. Financially, our annual fund appeal, the popular Fore Love and Money (golf and tennis event), grants received, plus our modest endowment help raise enough funds to cover our $425,000 annual operating expenses.
As we look to the future, we wish to ensure our long-term viability and to impact more kids in meaningful ways. For these reasons, we are launching Your Serve, a $1 million campaign to grow our endowment. Our current endowment of $380,000 is prudently invested, with a policy to withdraw no more than 5% in support of annual programming. By enlarging our endowment, we become a stronger organization. Thousands of kids will continue to hear the messages clearly delivered by 15-LOVE, and lives will continue to be transformed.
The campaign is seeking participation from regional donors, community leaders, foundations, and companies. Gift fulfillment may be made over three to five years.
